This is one of many reports excellently presented in Geoffrey Smith’s important book on genetically engineered organisms (GMOs), Seeds of deception. Journalists have devoted a lot of paper and ink to the environmental and economic problems created by genetically engineered seeds; but this is the first book to address the health risks associated with new technologies. The influence of foreign genetic material on the normal DNA of the host cell, obscure gene transfer phenomena, gene repositioning, gene silencing, gene stacking, and code reorganization lead to a wide range of unpredictable effects. For example, when the doctor Pousti gave the rats a specific lectin is a natural insecticide poison that some plants produce to repel insects, they had no apparent damage. The most serious threat is associated with the production of GMO trace elements. Such nutrients are regularly added to various foods, including white flour, as “fortification” – a threat to the health of the entire population that is extremely difficult to avoid.

Fortunately, the GMO food industry is in trouble. Europe has rejected GMOs and products made with them, and African countries will not even accept GMO seeds provided as food aid. This book will help us do what our government failed to do – bring about the decline of an industry that should never have started.
